About us

Idalia Montañez Miranda, Psy.D.

A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Idalia Montañez Miranda has practiced as a clinical psychologist in a variety of settings, including federally qualified health centers in New Mexico and Washington state. She has also worked in private mental health clinics and was a professor of psychology at universities and colleges in Puerto Rico, Washington state, and Florida. She is fluent in Spanish and has provided psychological treatment in this language for many years. She is an avowed Francophile.

Dr. Montañez earned a doctorate in clinical psychology (APA-accredited) from Carlos Albizu University in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is licensed to practice psychology in Washington state and Florida. She is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). She also is a PEERS certified provider. In her work with injured workers, she integrates Western, evidence-based approaches with Eastern notions of non-judgment, mindfulness, and self-compassion. She generally approaches the therapeutic relationship from an orientation that could be described as collaborative and mindfulness-based, informed by her years of personal meditation practice.

If an injured worker is being treated for a physical condition by other providers, Dr. Montañez would be happy to collaborate with them. Many mental health professionals are accustomed to working in isolation, but Dr. Montañez believes in a team approach and will communicate with injured workers' providers upon request.
